After a lengthy and unexpected hiatus from the blogosphere (thanks to moving, morning sickness, and, ehem, perhaps a dash of laziness), I’m back with a vengeance! Ok, not really with a vengeance…but I am back.
A lot has been happening over here, including the publication of my first novel, Curses Beneath Her Feet. I’m so sad that I haven’t been able to promote it the way it deserves, because, hey, it’s awesome and deserves more attention than I’ve been giving it. I plan to remedy that all now!
So, what’s the 411 with this thing (is that an expression people understand nowadays? Is 411 still a thing?), you may ask?
It’s young adult. It’s love. It’s friendship. It’s ancient power and secrets. It’s voodoo. It’s mystery. It’s a journey. And yes, it’s the South Carolina lowcountry and all the magic that that brings with it. Sounding a bit discombobulated? You’re just going to have to trust me on this: it’s absolutely clear, absolutely charming, and absolutely everything that it should be.
Here’s the story-line in a nutshell: Coralee Ayers has just graduated high school, but isn’t sure where her life is going from here–nothing seems exciting or feels right. All she is sure of is that she’s glad to have one last summer with her best friend (who also happens to be drop-dead gorgeous), Ben Blixt, before everything has to change.
Or so she thinks.
Enter: Kira, a mysterious and beautiful stranger who forces her way into Ben’s life and convinces him to push Coralee away, stealing their last moments together. But a good ol’ Southern girl isn’t going to take that kind of treatment for very long–after a few confusing weeks Coralee decides that she’s going to be in Ben’s life whether Kira likes it or not, and in the process stumbles upon a magical world she never expected, and entangles herself in a war 100 years in the making. Oh, the action really takes off from here! Eep. You’ve got to take a look!
Over the next few weeks I’ll post a few excerpts and “teasers” (I use the word loosely, since the book is already available), and I hope that you all fall in love with these characters the way I have!
